Title

Los Angeles Streetcar Tower

Downtown Los Angeles

The theoretical study of a re-envisioned hybrid residential design typology combines the best elements of the quintessential American single-family home and the need for high density living. The design is a study of a completely transformed multi-family residential building that bridges the gap between traditional apartments and single family homes with open yards. Traditional 800 square foot apartments have limited indoor and outdoor spaces for families to host, entertain and enjoy the sun. They also don’t provide any individuality where one can easily identify their home from street level when typical apartment complexes are monolithically wrapped in glass or plaster. Though cost of construction would increase, this design offers a new option for families looking for high density living with generous elevated yards and lanai type spaces in an urban center.
